Home Depot vs Lowe's vs Floor & Decor: Laminate Installation Cost

Only Home Depot publishes a laminate installation price: $2.00 to $3.00 per sq ft, or $2.49 for basic click-lock installation with other services extra. Lowe's quotes after a free consultation and Floor & Decor refers installation to a partner; neither publishes a price. We read all three on 14 October 2026. Below is what each includes, so you can compare their quotes on the same terms.

Reconciling Home Depot's Three Numbers

Home Depot publishes three different-looking figures, and they do not conflict once you see what each covers. $2.49 per sq ft is its basic click-lock installation, with additional services priced separately. $2.00 to $3.00 per sq ft is its installation range in the cost guide, which brackets the basic rate. $3.80 to $4.80 per sq ft is a total project figure with materials and underlayment included.

On 400 sq ft that is $996 for basic installation, $800 to $1,200 on the full installation range, and $1,632 to $2,516 with mid-range planks from our model. Removal of the old floor (about $780) and furniture moving ($35 for up to six pieces) come on top.

Questions to Ask Every Retailer

  1. Is the price per sq ft of floor, or per sq ft of planks bought (with waste)?
  2. Are underlayment, moldings, transitions and quarter round in the price?
  3. Is removal and disposal of the old floor included, and at what rate?
  4. Who levels the subfloor, and is levelling priced separately?
  5. Who moves furniture and appliances, and what does it cost?
  6. How long is the labour warranty, and who honours it: the retailer or the installer?

Put each answer next to the matching line in the laminate flooring cost calculator to see whether a quote is high because of the rate or because of what it covers.

FAQ

Common Questions

How much does Home Depot charge to install laminate flooring?

Home Depot's cost guide gives installation at $2.00 to $3.00 per sq ft and a total project cost of $3.80 to $4.80 per sq ft with materials; its service page offers basic click-lock installation at $2.49 per sq ft with additional services priced separately. It says its average laminate customer spends $3,400. Read 14 October 2026.

How much does Lowe's charge to install laminate flooring?

Lowe's does not publish a laminate installation price. The store page we could read offers a free consultation, independent installers who are licensed where applicable, insured and background-checked, and a 1-year labor warranty; the price comes in a quote after the consultation. Lowe's national installation pages blocked our reader on 14 October 2026.

Does Floor & Decor install laminate flooring?

Not itself. Floor & Decor refers installation to its partner, Installation Made Easy, and publishes no installation price. It does publish shelf prices, which is why we use its laminate prices in our model.

Is the Home Depot measure free?

Yes. Home Depot advertises a free in-home flooring measure, and its laminate service page says the installation project includes a professional measure, underlayment and installation, with moldings and trims included.

Something about your floor we have not costed?

Tell us about it. Messages are read by a person, and a reply carries the source behind any figure we quote so you can weigh it yourself. There is no set turnaround. Should the question be worth sharing, an anonymised version may go on the site, but only if you tell us you are happy for that.

Everything here is a price reference rather than a fitting guide. Subfloor moisture readings, the expansion gap left at every perimeter and the conditions a manufacturer attaches to its warranty are matters for your installer and for the instructions printed in the box.
